VLC is my video player of choice on both my Windows and Mac computers. It’s small, it's light on resources, and it plays just about every video format you care to mention. It also has a few neat. VLC can't do transitions or crossfade. Take it from an industry professional (not me) when they say that crossfade for videos looks bad. There are other video players like THEOplayer that do transitions, but: it's expensive. Transitions are basically just fade to black and fade in. Don't do this, just don't do this.
